Router or laser?
A laser is faster, cleaner and cuts detail a bit cannot reach, and it is limited to thin material and to what it can cut without catching fire. A router cuts thick hardwood, aluminium and plate, leaves a shoulder rather than a kerf, and makes dust and noise. Most workshops that own both use the laser for detail and the router for structure.
What does frame rigidity change?
How hard you can cut before the machine deflects and the cut wanders. A flexing gantry produces work that measures correctly in software and wrongly in reality, and the usual response is to slow down until it stops, which spends the machine speed you paid for. All-metal frames cost more for exactly this reason.
Can a desktop CNC cut aluminium?
Many can, slowly, with shallow passes and the right bit. The specification that decides it is rigidity rather than spindle wattage, because aluminium punishes deflection. Machines that state an aluminium capability generally back it with an all-metal frame; machines that do not mention metal are telling you something.
