How these totals are worked outWhich figures are the vendor's and which are ours

Every price here is read from the vendor’s own page and stored in the period the vendor publishes it in. If a company prints a monthly figure, that is what is stored, and the yearly number is our multiplication shown as a multiplication. The alternative — storing our own annual total as though the vendor had printed it — is how a publisher ends up attributing its own arithmetic to a manufacturer.

A component nobody publishes a price for makes the total not published rather than making it smaller. Treating a missing figure as zero would rank the machine with the most expensive consumables as the cheapest one on the page, which is the exact inversion this page exists to correct.

What the machine costs after you have bought it

The sticker price is the first payment, not the total. A CO2 tube is a wearing part with a rated service life, extraction filters saturate whether or not they look dirty, and lenses pit. None of it appears on the listing.

The table fills as machines are reviewed and vendor prices are read. Until then this page states the SHAPE of the cost rather than a figure for it, because a running-cost page with invented numbers is worse than one with none.

Four things cost money after the machine is paid for:

The control software. Sometimes bundled, sometimes a licence bought once, sometimes a subscription. Which one you get is set by the machine — see software compatibility.
The source. A CO2 glass tube is rated in operating hours and dims before it dies, so cuts that took one pass start taking two. A diode module is cheaper to replace and shorter-lived.
Extraction filters. Carbon saturates and stops adsorbing with no visible change, so the signal is the smell coming back rather than anything you can look at.
Optics. Lenses and mirrors pit. A cut that has quietly needed an extra pass for weeks is usually the lens rather than the tube.
