Fiber, CO2, diode and UV — in one table
What each source can mark, the working area and optical output the maker publishes, and what the machine needs on the bench. Taken from each manufacturer’s own documentation and dated. Nobody selling these machines compares them across technologies, because each of them sells one.
HomeVerdict
The source decides what a machine can make. Fiber marks bare metal and will not cut wood; CO2 cuts everything organic and passes through clear acrylic; diode is the cheap way into wood and leather; UV marks glass and clear plastic that the other three cannot touch.
Why this is the verdict, with sources
The comparison nobody in this category publishes is the one across technologies, because every manufacturer sells one of them. A buyer arrives asking “fiber or CO2” and finds four separate marketing sites, each answering “ours”. The answer is set by material rather than budget: a fiber laser will not cut plywood at any wattage, and a CO2 machine will not mark bare stainless without a coating. Wattage decides how fast the job runs; the source decides whether the job is possible. Every figure below carries the manufacturer page it was read from and the date it was read.
Not yet populated
No machine carries a full sourced review yet. A machine appears in this table once somebody has read its manufacturer’s own documentation and entered the figures with the date they were read — never because a listing mentioned a number. Until then this page states what the table will hold rather than filling it with values nobody checked.
The live Amazon catalogue underneath it is a different tier and fills on its own: see the category pages for fiber, CO2 and diode machines.

Why the wattage on the box is not one number
A diode machine advertised as 40W may be drawing 40W of electricity and delivering a fraction of it as light. Both figures are called watts, and listings frequently do not say which one they mean. Where a maker publishes optical output — the light that actually reaches the material — that is what this table records, and where nobody defines the term, the table says so rather than repeating the flattering number.
Across technologies the comparison breaks down entirely. A 20W fiber laser marks stainless that a 60W CO2 machine cannot touch, and that same CO2 machine cuts plywood the fiber will only scorch. Comparing wattage between two different sources is comparing two different physical processes that happen to share a unit.

Decide the material first
Material, then bench, then budget. A machine that fits your budget and cannot cut what you intend to sell is not a compromise, it is a return. Write down the three materials you actually plan to work in before you read another spec sheet.
