Every figure behind this guide, sourced and datedThe full finding: counts, ordering, and the spec nobody prints

Laser Oracle tracks 12 laser machines in stock on Amazon today, with prices from the Amazon Product Advertising API refreshed every three hours, starting at $1,599. The list is ordered by Amazon's own category placement rather than by our preference; the best-placed machine currently sits at #48 in Engraving Machines & Tools. 9 of them carry a full sourced review here, with the workspace requirement, licence cost and software compatibility read from each manufacturer's own pages. The gap a buyer should know about: of the reviewed machines in this bracket, none publishes an optical output figure, as distinct from the wattage on the box. Laser Oracle does not test machines: every figure on this page is a live listing value or a quotation from a manufacturer document, dated when it was read.

How this list was builtThe screen, the ordering, and what we do not do

The screen is mechanical: every machine we track on Amazon that is in stock, carries a live price, and is not a duplicate listing. The order is Amazon’s own category placement, read from the Product Advertising API and refreshed every three hours. Laser Oracle does not test machines and has no preference to encode; where a unit has a full review here, the review quotes the manufacturer’s own documents with the date each was read. Guide copy last reviewed 2026-08-14.

Can a diode laser engrave metal?
It engraves coated metal and not bare metal, and listings blur the difference. Anodised aluminium, powder-coated tumblers and painted plates all mark on a diode machine, because the laser is removing or altering a coating rather than the metal underneath. Bare stainless, raw aluminium and brass reflect the 450nm light a diode emits, so no amount of power or passes produces a permanent mark. That is why every machine on this page is a fiber or a UV source.
What is the difference between a fiber and a UV laser for metal?
Fiber is the default and UV is the specialist. A fiber source at 1064nm is absorbed by essentially every metal, which is what makes it the general answer for steel, aluminium, brass and titanium. A UV source works at a much shorter wavelength and marks by breaking surface bonds rather than by heating, so it leaves almost no heat-affected zone and will mark plastics, glass and coated surfaces that a fiber source scorches. If the job is metal, buy fiber. If the job is metal plus sensitive plastics in the same shop, UV earns its price.
What is MOPA, and do I need it to mark metal?
MOPA describes a fiber source whose pulse duration you can set, and you do not need it for ordinary marking. A standard Q-switched fiber laser engraves steel and aluminium permanently and legibly. What MOPA adds is control over how much heat lands in the material, which is what produces colour on stainless and lets you mark thin anodised aluminium without burning through to the metal below. Colour work and thin anodised stock are the two reasons to pay for it.
How deep can a fiber laser engrave into steel?
Surface marking is one pass and deep engraving is many, and the specification that governs it is the source rather than the machine. A permanent, legible, wear-resistant mark on steel happens in a single pass on every machine here. Cutting a recess you can feel with a fingernail means repeating that pass tens of times, which is a question of how long you are willing to run the job rather than of whether the machine can do it. Manufacturers rarely publish a depth-per-pass figure, and where one is published we record it with the document it came from.
Do I need extraction for marking metal?
Yes, and for a different reason than for wood. Marking metal does not produce the smoke that cutting plywood does, but it does produce fine particulate and, on coated stock, vaporised coating. Both belong outside the room rather than in your lungs. Fiber and UV markers also emit invisible light, so the eye protection has to be rated for the wavelength the machine actually uses rather than for lasers in general.
How is this list ordered, and have you tested these?
By Amazon’s own category placement, refreshed through the day, and no, we have not run these machines and do not claim to. What Laser Oracle adds is the layer the listings leave out: the source type, whether the source is MOPA or Q-switched, the published working area, and what the listing does not state at all. Every price here came from Amazon within the last three hours.
