Laser Oracle tracks ten marking sprays on Amazon and measures every listing against the specifications that actually decide the purchase. Of the ten we currently hold, seven state non-metal surfaces and three do not. That gap is the finding. These are not obscure figures: they are the ones a buyer needs before choosing, and they are missing from the listing that is doing the selling. Prices and category rankings come from the Amazon Product Advertising API and are refreshed every three hours, so no figure here is more than 24 hours old; all ten carry a live price at the moment this page was built. A listing that omits a specification has not told us the product lacks it.

Questions people ask

Why does a CO2 laser need a spray to mark metal at all?
Bare metal reflects the 10.6 micron wavelength a CO2 tube emits, so almost nothing is absorbed and almost no heat goes into the surface. A marking medium is a coating that does absorb it: the laser fuses the coating to the metal and what is left is a bonded black mark. A fiber laser at 1064 nanometres is absorbed by bare metal directly, which is why fiber markers need no spray.
Is CerMark worth the price over the cheaper cans?
CerMark is the name people search for and it is several times the price of an OMTech or xTool can. What it buys is consistency on hard uncoated metals, which is where cheap mediums are most likely to disappoint. If you are marking anodised or coated surfaces the cheaper cans do the same job, and on this site the OMTech and xTool sprays outrank it in Amazonโ€™s own engraving category.
How far does one can go?
Almost nobody publishes a coverage figure, which is why we record volume instead and leave the arithmetic visible. The same fluid is sold from 2oz to 13oz at prices that do not scale with the size, so cost per ounce varies by more than the brand does. Work it out before buying the small can.
Does marking spray work on glass and ceramic?
Some formulations do and they are sold separately from the metal ones. A can made for stainless will frequently do nothing on tile, and the reverse is also true. The listings that name their surfaces are the ones worth planning a job around; the ones that say "all materials" are the ones to be careful with.
