Catalogue read

Of the machines on this site carrying sourced specifications, eight name leather in their maker’s own documentation and a ninth names PU leather, across all four source types and eight brands. Not one of the nine publishes a cut depth for it. Every published claim is marking. So the question this page can answer is which machines their makers state will mark leather, and the question no maker on Amazon answers is how thick a hide any of them will cut.

31 machines are in stock on Amazon today, from $338.96. Prices refresh every three hours.

Every figure behind this guide, sourced and datedThe full finding: counts, ordering, and the spec nobody prints

Laser Oracle tracks 31 laser machines in stock on Amazon today, with prices from the Amazon Product Advertising API refreshed every three hours, starting at $338.96. The list is ordered by Amazon's own category placement rather than by our preference; the best-placed machine currently sits at #8 in Engraving Machines & Tools. 28 of them carry a full sourced review here, with the workspace requirement, license cost and software compatibility read from each manufacturer's own pages. The gap a buyer should know about: of the reviewed machines in this bracket, 1 of 28 publish an optical output figure, as distinct from the wattage on the box. Laser Oracle does not test machines: every figure on this page is a live listing value or a quotation from a manufacturer document, dated when it was read.

What marks leather, and what does not

The source decides this, not the wattage. Quoted from each maker’s own documentation, with the date it was read.

Which laser source marks leather, by wavelength, with the condition on each
MaterialFiber1064nmCO210.6µmDiode450nmUV355nmWhat decides it
Leather Conditional Marks it Marks it Marks itReal leather engraves and cuts on both a diode and a CO2 machine. Chrome-tanned leather releases chromium compounds when burned; vegetable-tanned is the one to work indoors.
Faux leather (PU) No Conditional Conditional Marks itCreality is the only maker in this catalogue to name it, listing PU leather among the materials its 5W UV marker marks. PU is a polyurethane coating on a fabric backing, so it behaves as a plastic rather than a hide. ⚠️ PVC-backed "leatherette" is a different product sold under the same word, and it is the row below.
PVC and vinyl No No No NoNever. Anything containing chlorine releases chlorine gas, which damages the machine and the person operating it. This row is the same on every source type and it is the only one in the table that is a safety instruction rather than a capability.

What else leather needs

Not extras. These are the parts of the job the machine does not come with, and the lines people leave out when they compare two prices.

Fume extraction

Burning leather smells like burning leather, and the smoke carries whatever the hide was tanned with. This is the one material on this site where the extraction is a health line rather than a housekeeping one, and it belongs in the budget beside the machine.

Beds and tooling

Hide is not flat and does not stay flat. A honeycomb bed holds it down and lets the beam and the smoke out of the back of the cut, instead of reflecting off a solid base into the underside of a panel you have already paid for.

Optics and safety

Eyewear has to match the wavelength the machine emits, and the two are not interchangeable. A CO2 tube emits at 10,600nm and a diode at 450nm, and a pair rated for one is not rated for the other.

How this list was builtThe screen, the ordering, and what we do not do

The screen is mechanical: every machine we track on Amazon that is in stock, carries a live price, and is not a duplicate listing. The order is Amazon’s own category placement, read from the Product Advertising API and refreshed every three hours. Laser Oracle does not test machines and has no preference to encode; where a unit has a full review here, the review quotes the manufacturer’s own documents with the date each was read. Guide copy last reviewed 2026-08-20.

What is the best laser engraver for leather?
Unusually for this site, the source type does not narrow it. Fiber, CO2, diode and UV machines all have makers stating they mark leather, so every tier is on the table and the shortlist is wide rather than short. What none of them states is a cut depth, so if your product is cut shapes rather than marked panels, no listing on Amazon is telling you what you need to know and the honest answer is to ask the maker directly before you buy. For marking wallets, patches and dog collars, the cheapest machine whose maker names leather will do it.
Is it safe to laser engrave leather indoors?
The tanning decides it, and no listing mentions the tanning. Chrome-tanned leather is most of what is sold and carries chromium compounds; vegetable-tanned does not, which is why it is the one specified for indoor work. Neither is safe without extraction, and no machine on this page ships with any. Price the extractor alongside the machine rather than after it, because it is the line that turns a bench in a spare room into a bench you can work at.
Will a diode laser cut through leather?
No maker in this catalogue publishes an answer, and that is worth knowing before you spend anything. Nine machines here name leather or PU leather in their own specifications, from eight different brands, and every one states marking only with the cut-depth field left empty. Compare that with wood, where the same makers publish a figure in millimetres and a pass count. The absence is consistent enough across brands to look deliberate rather than accidental, and it is the reason this page will not rank machines by how thick a hide they cut.
What about faux leather and suede?
Creality is the only maker in this catalogue to name either, listing PU leather among the materials its 5W UV marker marks. Nobody publishes anything for suede or nubuck, so treat both as untested rather than as capable. The one thing that is not a judgement call: check what a faux leather actually is before it goes near a machine, because PVC-backed leatherette is sold under the same word, and anything containing chlorine releases chlorine gas that damages the machine and the person operating it.
How is this list ordered, and have you tested these?
By Amazon’s own category placement, refreshed through the day, and no, we have not run these machines and do not claim to. What Laser Oracle adds is the layer the listings leave out: the source type, the published working area, whether a wattage claim is optical or electrical, and what the maker does not state at all. Every price here came from Amazon within the last three hours.
