Laser Oracle tracks seven handheld laser welders on Amazon and measures every listing against the specifications that actually decide the purchase. Of the seven we currently hold, three state supply voltage and phase and four do not. That gap is the finding. These are not obscure figures: they are the ones a buyer needs before choosing, and they are missing from the listing that is doing the selling. Prices and category rankings come from the Amazon Product Advertising API and are refreshed every three hours, so no figure here is more than 24 hours old; all seven carry a live price at the moment this page was built. A listing that omits a specification has not told us the product lacks it.

How much does a laser welder cost?
The handheld fiber welders Amazon stocks run $4,300 to $7,799 today, and Laser Oracle re-reads every one of those prices every three hours. Budget beyond the machine: these are 220V tools and a dedicated circuit fitted by an electrician is a real cost, wire and nozzles are consumable, and eye protection rated for 1080nm is not the helmet you already own. Industrial systems from the welding brands sit far above this range and are sold through dealers rather than listed.
How thick will a laser welder weld?
It depends on the metal as much as on the power. xTool publishes a weld range of 0.2 to 4mm for the MetalFab at both 800W and 1200W, against carbon steel, alloy and tool steel, stainless, galvanized sheet and titanium; GWEIKE publishes 0.2 to 5mm at 1200W. Those are the makersโ€™ own figures and they are quoted with their read-dates in the table on this page. A power figure with no metal beside it is not a capability.
What is a laser welder good for?
Thin sheet and visible seams, which is where it beats the alternatives clearly. The beam puts far less heat into the part than an arc, so thin stainless distorts less and the bead usually needs little or no finishing, and it is markedly easier to learn than TIG. It is a poor answer for thick structural steel, for outdoor work, and for anything where the part cannot be brought to a fixed machine.
Do handheld laser welders really work?
The process is established industrial technology and the machines on this page are the consumer end of it. Laser Oracle has not run any of them and does not claim to, so what this page reports is what each maker publishes and what each listing leaves out. The honest caution is that the makers disagree with each other on basic capability: xTool marks aluminium, brass, bronze and magnesium as unsupported for welding on the MetalFab, while GWEIKE names aluminium among the metals its machine welds.
What is a handheld laser welder?
It is a fiber laser source with the beam delivered down an armoured cable to a gun you hold, rather than to a galvo head over a bed. The same wavelength that marks steel will melt and fuse it at higher power, so the machine welds a seam by moving the beam along it. Most of the ones sold on Amazon also cut and clean, because those are the same source doing less of the same thing.
Can you plug one into a normal outlet?
Not a general-purpose US outlet. These run on 220V, and the larger ones want three phase. Treat the supply as part of the purchase price: an electrician fitting a dedicated circuit is a real cost, and it is the thing most likely to delay a machine that has already arrived.
How thick can a handheld laser weld?
It depends on the metal as much as on the power, which is why a power figure on its own is not a capability. Stainless, carbon steel and aluminium each absorb and conduct differently, so the claim worth reading is a thickness range against a named metal. Listings that quote a single millimetre figure with no metal beside it have not told you anything you can plan a job around.
Is a laser welder better than MIG or TIG?
It is different rather than better. A laser puts far less heat into the part, so thin sheet distorts less and the seam needs less finishing, and it is easier to learn than TIG. It costs several times what a decent TIG set costs, needs eye protection rated for the wavelength, and it will not replace a stick welder outdoors on structural steel.
Do these need eye protection?
Yes, and not the shade used for arc welding. A fiber source works at a wavelength an arc-welding helmet is not rated to stop, so the protection has to state an optical density at that wavelength. Check whether the machine ships with rated glasses or expects you to supply them, because the listings differ and one of them is wrong for you.
